Sanctimony...
You know for 8 years Karl Rove and Dick Cheney were both in the administration and they were shadows. Nobody could find them, knew where they were and they never spoke to the public. Now that they are out of office neither of them can shut the fuck up.
And this is really starting to get annoying and none of these people who were in the Bush administration are realizing the level of hypocrisy is off the charts. With the logic they are employing they should be working at pretzel factories.
These are the same clowns...who when Bill Clinton was being investigated and was heading for impeachment they kept bringing up that the investigation was not about sex...it was about the Rule of Law. Now it wasn't about sex...it was about the Rule of Law.
Now after these memos came out which forget the convoluted reasoning. Forget the bullshit about what ifs and what could have beens or how the world changed after 9/11 or how we had to operate on the dark side and how we had to....the excuses go on and on. ENOUGH!
It was Ronald Reagan who in 1988 who signed the UN Convention Treaty Against Torture...

We respected that as the law of the land as we held that as the standard of the law. These OLC memos are in direct violation of our laws and of International treaty that we signed. That is the Rule of Law.
No debate. No wiggle room. No crazy ticking bomb scenarios where you think. It's over. Done. The Bush Administration broke the law and they broke treaty. That is no longer worthy of debate...it is a fact. Done. Over with. There is no arguing. Rule of Law.
And I think Obama made the right decision on not wanting to go back and relitigate the past and get bogged down in all this nonsense of who approved what and who did what and who thought what. But the more I see Karl Rove and Dick Cheney on television arguing over this stuff...the more I get the urge to see them undergo some medieval like torture.
And this is a greater problem that the current state of the Republican party is in and will never be able to go forward in leadership until they do the one thing they have to do...drop the fucking sanctimony.
Karl Rove is wrong on this torture issue. Dick Cheney was wrong on this issue and broke the law. I say that and then I hear these 9/11 excuses. What if we were attacked...we were in a panic...BULLSHIT. Stop it.
The Rule of Law. Remember that little conservative ideal called the Rule of Law?
If Dick Cheney and Karl Rove truly believed that they needed to torture then they should have changed the law. They should have changed the Constitution. And they should have left the treaty that Reagan signed. You know why? Because that is how people who follow the rule of law act. They don't act like Jack Bauer and go around ripping out fingernails and blowing shit up...they change the law. Period.
And the funny part about all this nonsense is that Congress during the Bush administration was absolutely supine and weak. The Bush administration could have written all this into a Patriot act or any other law they could have wanted and it would have got passed. But no. Dick Cheney hopped on his magic unicorn and started operating on the 'dark side'. That would be our Vice President advocating breaking the laws of the land he swore to uphold. Now when it came to the rule of law Bill Clinton should have been impeached. If we followed the rule of law he would have never lasted his term. And he should have been thrown out of office. But if we are going to use that same yardstick and if we applied the 'rule of law' then the Bush administration would be awaiting War Crimes Trials in the Hague.
Now just like Bill Clinton didn't get impeached because of politics, because of politics these guys who operated outside the law will walk too. But if you are Karl Rove or Dick Cheney get off the TV set arguing the alternate set of non existent laws you chose to operate in. Go back to your bunker and get lost. The sanctimony of your bullshit offends me...
